Handicap competition standings up to 17th June 2009

Velo Results and Standings as of 17th June 2009

16th June 2009

OK I've finally managed to get a excel spreadsheet done for the handicap competition and the latest standings can be seen using the link below. I have taken over the adminsitration from Simon Scott so hope I have got the system right, in fact I must have because I'm in the lead (ha ha, that was a joke - honest!).

This is the way it works:-

1. The competition runs between May and August and covers only the club 10's.

2. You will be automatically entered if you are a current member of the club.

3. You must marshal for at least one of the qualifying events to be eligible for prizes..

4. The prizes are kindly sponsored again this year by Simon Scott and they are 1st £50, 2nd £30 and 3rd £20.

5. The points (from 1st - 10, 2nd -9 etc down to 1) are scored based on your corrected time (i.e. actual time minus your previous handicap). Your handicap is calculated on the difference between your last time and the scatch time (22 minutes for all courses this year). Hope that's clear. Please check your times on the spreadsheet in case I have made any mistakes.

In case you are wondering how to score the most points, the best way is to do as many time trials as possible (you will score at least 1 point for finishing), and try to improve your time from week to week. PB's generally score big. The competition is structured to give an advantage to beginners who can make quite big time improvements. So theoretically everyone has an equal chance.

There were some big moves towards the top after yesterdays time trial. Richard Harrison continues to improve and moved up from 12th to 7th place. We are coming into a period where we are short of marshalls so check the latest list and let me know when you can do it:- EventOfficials2009

New route maps for the revised 55 and 100 mile reliability rides are now available on the publications page. Both follow closely the Tour of Pembrokeshire routes and are now on relatively quiet roads. Please note that if you want to ride the longer events you should make sure your have ridden at least 40 miles if you want to do the 55 mile route and 75 miles if you want to ride the 100 mile route. The 100 mile route includes a cafe stop at Newgale.

A list of the South Wales DC time trials is now available on the Welsh Cycling website or through the link below. Check the WCA website regularly for updates or for events which have not yet been organised. Entry forms to the events are available in the publications section. If you enter any, please put the details on the guestbook because it may be possible to arrange travel with others. The club are hoping to target 4 or 5 events through the season and to encourage new comers, juniors or others to take part. We may be able to arrange a minibus if enough people enter. Many of the courses used are fast and so are good opportunities to post PB's.
