Jon Mills is organising for someone to perform VO2 Max testing at Tenby Cycles on 23rd October.
VO2 Max is the maximum amount of oxygen in ml/min/kg one can utilize at high intensity exercise. Knowing your VO2 max enables you to observe how effective your cardiovascular and respiratory system is at drawing oxygen in at the lungs, the capacity of the blood to carry the oxygen, the ability of the heart to pump the blood to the working muscles and the tissues and muscles efficiency at extracting and utilizing the oxygen from the blood.
The test will consist of a number of 1 minute incremental stages lasting approximately 6- 10 minutes until 80 % of maximum heart rate is achieved. During the test heart rate and oxygen consumption will be monitored and recorded until 80% of maximum heart rate is attained, the maximum volume of oxygen you can utilise will then be assessed (VO2 max). Prior to the VO2 max test a body composition analysis will be taken to assess % body fat, % fat free mass and total body water. Feedback and training suggestions will also be given.
You will attain:
• VO2 max in ml/kg/min
• Anaerobic threshold
• Training zones
• Feedback
This will be very useful for those of you intending to attend turbo sessions this winter. Cost is £25 per person, which is about the normal going rate for this type of test. If you're interested, contact Jon on 01834 845573 (Tenby Cycles) or 07817 029997.

Results from the weekend open can be found here. Once again it was a brilliantly organised event and credit must go to Cliff Jackson and his family for all of their hard work. The bacon butties were a real bonus! Thanks also to all of the other helpers, marshals, timekeepers etc, without whom we couldn't have done it.

Thanks very much to all the marshalls who have helped out over the series and well done to all the riders, especially those who are new to time trialling. We are still trying to sort out an evening for the awards. Hopefully it will be in the next few weeks.

Wow!! What a great night of racing. 64 riders for the first inter-club competition of the season, excellent weather and some really fast times. The results are on the results page but it will take me some time to do the club points.
But now the bad news. If your number was between 33 and 65 unfortunately your time was 1 minute slower than it showed on the sheet. This was because number 32 was missing and the starters didn't realise it. If anyone can see any errors on the results, please let me know.
Well done to everyone. There were a number of time trial virgins and I hope you enjoyed it and will want to do it again. We are still looking at the date of the next interclub but it will not be in 2 weeks time, due to the continuing roadworks. We'll keep you posted.

I have updated the club championship standings (on the 'standings' page) and also put up the latest handicap competition standings. Please check your results carefully and let me know if you find any errors. The rules of the competitions are at the bottom of the summary pages.

Congratulations to Jack Lear who was the fastest junior and broke the club junior 25 record with a 58.11 today on the R25/7 at Usk. The previous record had stood for 18 years. Also well done to Jon Lear for breaking the hour for the first time.
A belated congratulations to Debbie Phillips who won the fastest lady and vet lady on standard at the Port Talbot Wheelers open 10 on 1st May.

An excellent turnout of club juniors for the Welsh GHS competition at Neath on Saturday and brilliant results. Luke Cornish (now Cwmcarn Paragon) posted the fastest time of the juniors but not far behind was Jack Lear. I'm pretty sure that Alex and Danny posted big PB's. Well done lads, here are the full results.

We have a regular Monday night 'recovery/easy' ride from Bierspool Cycles in Pembroke Dock at 6.30pm. The route will be a circular route via Sageston, Devonshire Drive, Tenby, Lydstep, Lamphey, Pembroke. Nice easy pace. Ideal for those recovering from weekend racing or want to start out riding in a group.
8th April 2010 *VERY IMPORTANT*
The time trial programme has changed. This is necessary due to roadworks near Pembroke Dock which affects 3 of our routes (PD10, the 15 and the 25). We have tried to salvage a '10' on the Pembroke Dock road. This will start in the layby near Bangeston Garden Centre, head towards Sageston roundabout, circle the Sageston roundabout, back to Carew roundabout and do this loop between the roundabouts twice before heading back towards Pembroke Dock and finishing just after Cosherston Garden Centre. The meeting place for this event will be at the layby near the Cemetary (on the A477 near Waterloo Industrial Estate).
Because there will be traffic lights on this road for the whole of the summer we will have to be flexible with the start and we will not release riders into a stream of traffic. Start times will then be adjusted.
For this season we will just be running only 10's for the club championship and the results will be based on the best 5 times.
Below is a revised events timetable and also the event officials sheet. We are short of marshalls for many events. Remember, if you don't marshal at least 3 events through the season you will not qualify for any of the club competitions.

11th March 2010 - club time trials
Here is the latest list of people who have come forward to help out at the club events. Don't forget, if you don't help out at least 3 times during the season you will not qualify for the club competitions. So get your diaries out and phone me with your available dates.
EventOfficials2010
You will also know that there are long term road works on the A477 near Pembroke Dock. This affects number of our courses and we are looking at running alternative routes. Keep an eye on the website for details nearer the time. At this stage it looks like we will not be able to run any 15's or the 25's until the end of July. In which case the club championship will probably take the average of your 5 best 10 mile times.
26th Feb 2010 - facebook
We now have a facebook page for the club (thanks to Jill Colman). It can be found at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=312697586286

16th Nov 2009 - Winter ride routes
I have now plotted the routes from Memory Map as gpx files. If anyone knows how to download these to a Garmin please let me know. They are on the 'events' page.
12th Nov 2009 - Track cycling
I have been given some details of track cycling at Carmarthen Track.
Chris Bates at Bynea has asked me to let you know of junior training sessions which are held on Mondays 6 to 8pm and Thursdays 7 to 9pm. The cost is £1 per session and are open to all juniors. Normal road bikes are OK.
Neil Hunt has asked me to let you know of senior sessions on Thursdays 7 to 9pm. Again normal road bikes and £2 per session. Not sure if this is going to be training or racing at this stage.
Please note that these sessions are no held if it is raining, although the track dries out pretty quickly, I'm told.
